Flight season of Asian gypsy moth to finish on September

Flight season of Asian gypsy moth (AGM) has just started according to its biological life cycle and it will continue until Sep 1, stated by the Mr. B.Ganzorig, Forest Research and Development Center. Flight peak of AGM typically starts from the middle of August and lasts ten days. Since then, AGM eventually disappears.

During its flight season, AGM can not do damage to trees but moths are actually a significant cause of respiratory allergies due to their wings are covered in a layer of powdery scales. In addition, the scales fall off as the moth flies through the air, creating an airborne allergen.

According to the national research, harmful insects such as Siberian moth and AGM have covered 760 thousand hectares land of 85 soums of 15 aimags. 560 thousand hectares land of 75 soums must immediately eliminate the insects.

The nearest places to UB city is Batsumber soum of Tuv aimag, Mandal Soum of Selenge aimag. AGM`s attraction to an artificial light leads them to the city.

Therefore, residents are recommended to organize the elimination of AGM`s in their homes and yards based on their resources.
