B.Naranbadrakh established the Horse Care Center two years ago. During this time, he bought more than 50 horses from slaughter centers and is raising those horses in Terelj.
B.Naranbadrakh calls his horses "students". Those “students” could not wait to see B.Naranbadrakh approaching with his food bag.
Every “student” of B. Naranbadrakh has names such as Bandaalai, Tsookhor and Sheephead. They cuddle with him like knowing he saved their lives. He treats his horse like a human being. He said “Hey, Tsoohor. Let’s be a star” and our conversation started.
When he was five years old, his family gave him a young mare. A five-year-old boy falls as he tries to ride his horse. He used to walk the horse, talk about life, share his sadness and joy with his horse. B.Naranbadrakh's love for horses has started from this time.
He holds a bachelor's degree in economics from the National University of Mongolia and a master's degree in history and tourism. In 2013, he was part of the “Root Sound” project to revive the State Orchestra.
B.Naranbadrakh said “If people stop giving their horses to slaughter centers, I don’t have to run a Horse care center. I always think about saving horse life. Nowadays, Mongolians count their horses as meat and money. Mongolians never had such a view in history. Some people give their pregnant mares to slaughter centers. Last year, we adopted eight pregnant mares”.
A MAN IS A TOURIST TO THIS WORLD WHO MUST TAKE LOVE CLASSES
One night last spring, he dreamed that he was riding a pregnant brown mare with a reddish-yellow foal with white mane and tail. After waking up at 3:00 in the morning, he called his younger brother and asked if the mare gave birth. At around 7:00 in the morning, his younger brother called him and told him that a brown mare gave birth to a reddish-yellow foal with white mane and tail.
Many people criticize the care center as “Why did you run such a place with no profit?” and B.Naranbadrakh answers those questions “The main purposes of our horse care center are to stop people giving their horses to slaughter centers, to love horses as friends, and stop eating horse meat”.
He mentioned “Children living in the city come here and ride horses. I ask them which color you ride, did you see his eyes, how old he is and how was his characteristics. I try to make them feel these things”.
He also said that a person who weighs 117 kg lost weight to be 85 kg by riding a horse without any diet and going to a fitness center.
I FEEL SO SAD SEEING PEOPLE GIVING PREGNANT MARE TO SLAUGHTER
B.Naranbadrakh talked about Inner Mongolians that they don't eat horse meat, because they admire horses and consider them as friends. The Government of the People's Republic of China supports this and declares them as "people who respect horses" and is developing the tourism industry in Inner Mongolia. But here, the Mongolians give pregnant mares to slaughter centers which I feel so sad and disappointed.
Every horse in “Horse care center” is waiting for their new owner. Very simple requirements are put for people who want to adopt a horse “You should come and see your horse regularly and spread a positive message to not eat horse meat and love them. You can come and ride your horse. You can bring your children and introduce them. You can also bring hay to your adopted horse at the time of feeding”. People can come to the care center and adopt any horse they want. Currently, only 4 of over 50 horses have been adopted.
Horse care center’s staff look after old horses as old people and necessary treatment is performed by a veterinarian. Visiting such a place with such a warm climate, treating horses like friends and loving their lives as much as your own may help every Mongolian to love horses.
"If the Mongolians love and respect their horses that travelled around the world in history, I am relieved" said B. Naranbadrakh.
