Mazaalai bear population and protection supporting by the State policy

The first session of the working group initiated by the President of Mongolia to develop and implement a comprehensive action plan for the protection of the extremely rare Mongolian bear, the Mazaalai bear, has started. The following issues will be discussed at the meeting.

  • Final approval of the National Program for the Protection of Mazaalai Bears,
  • Make the Mazaalai bear a national pride animal 
  • Celebrate February 28 of every year as Mazaalai bear day
  • Organize regular meeting of the International Association for Bear Research and Management in Mongolia in 2025



The working group is headed by B.Bat-Erdene, the Minister of Environment and Tourism, and it includes O.Altansaruul, Head of Environmental Projects and Programs of the Office of the President, D.Munkhsaikhan, Governor of Bayankhongor Province, Ts.Uranchimeg, Department Head of Natural Resources Policy and Regulation of Ministry of Environment and Tourism, B.Oyunsanaa, Department Head of Forestry, G.Oyunjargal, Head of Weather and Environment Analysis Department, Ch.Bayarbat, Head of the security administration of "A" section of the Gobi Great Nature Reserve, Colonel S.Bayarsaikhan, Deputy Head of the General Authority for Border Protection, K.Nyamdavaa, Head of the Department of Ecological Police Preventive Cooperation, A.Bayasgalan, director of Mazaalai Association NGO, D.Delgerchimeg, deputy researcher of the Institute of Biology of the Academy of Sciences, and representatives of the Mongolian Academy of Sciences, scientific research organizations, zoologists, researchers and scientists from non-governmental organizations in the field of animal protection.
