Khentii in North Eastern Mongolia is one of the least travelled, yet, one of the most beautiful and historically important regions in the country. Now Khentii province is opening its’ door and inviting travellers to explore the lush green forests, pretty lakes, crystal clear rivers, diverse cultures of ethnic minorities and rich historical remains under the slogan “Khentii - heart of Mongolia”.
The Khentiiers are proud of their homeland for being the birthplace of Genghis Khan, and there are many places related to the Khaan and the Great Mongol Empire. Even it’s acknowledged that the Secret History of the Mongols, the biggest historical document on the Mongols & Genghis Khan, was written at the ancient Aurag city (present day Avarga in Khentii).
Khentii is also a home to Buryat people, one of the most popular ethnic groups among the Mongols. The Buryats are well-known for being hard working and fun loving at the same time, and have a distinctive cultural heritage such as Batnorov style of silversmiths etc.
A photo tour was organised recently to promot Khentii tourism, tourist camps and travel routes, and some of the biggest names among the Mongolian photographers were in the tour group. Together, the photographers are now exhibiting at Blue Moon Art Gallery. Here are some of the photos from that photo tour and you can enjoy more amazing photos at the photo exhibition that will be open till 30 November 2015.
