2.8 magnitude earthquake strikes Songinokhairkhan district

A 2.8 magnitude earthquake occurred in Bayankhoshuu Mountain (48.00N, 106.82E) in Ulaanbaatar’s Songinokhairkhan District on July 22 at 23:35.

According to theoretical estimates, the quake registered a magnitude of III–IV at the epicenter, with tremors of II–III felt in nearby areas including Baruun Salaa, Zuun Salaa, Sharga Morit, Yargait, Jigjid, Belkh, Uvursogoot, Arsogoot, Selkh, Hailaast, Denjiin Myanga, and Dari Ekh.

The Institute of Astronomy and Geophysics’ soil peak accelerometer station, located on rocky terrain, recorded tremors of I–II magnitude.
