L.Oyun-Erdene, the Prime Minister of Mongolia, recently met with World Bank representatives, including Mara Warwick, the World Bank Country Director for China, the Republic of Korea, and Mongolia, and Taehyun Lee, the World Bank Country Manager for Mongolia. During the meeting, they discussed the ongoing collaboration between the Mongolian government and the World Bank in detail.
The Prime Minister expressed his gratitude for the World Bank’s valuable contribution to Mongolia’s economy, noting that the joint government action plan for 2024-2028 has been approved and implementation has already begun. This plan includes the execution of 14 major development projects and the introduction of 14 socio-economic reforms.
In particular, L.Oyun-Erdene emphasized the importance of upcoming energy reforms, stating the need for support from expert professionals and proposing further cooperation with the World Bank. During the meeting, L.Gantumur, First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Development, also highlighted the government’s focus on reducing air pollution and traffic congestion, mentioning the development of a satellite city in Khushig Valley as part of this effort. He expressed a desire to collaborate with the World Bank in this urban development initiative.
The World Bank representatives affirmed their willingness to cooperate across a range of government priorities, including energy reform, climate change mitigation, disaster preparedness, and economic diversification to enhance Mongolia's competitiveness.
The World Bank also commended the Mongolian government's focus on human development, offering support to help strengthen human resources and the public service sector. They encouraged the government to develop a comprehensive strategy for further cooperation with the World Bank.
