Foreign Minister B.Battsetseg attends funeral ceremony of Pope Francis

The farewell ceremony for Pope Francis, the former head of state of the Holy See, was held at St.Peter's Square in the Vatican. Representing the Government of Mongolia, Minister of Foreign Affairs B.Battsetseg attended the funeral ceremony and paid tribute.

Since his election as Pope in 2013, Archbishop Jorge Mario Bergoglio of Buenos Aires, known as Pope Francis, made significant contributions to promoting global peace, strengthening mutual respect among nations, and spreading compassion and understanding throughout humanity.

In 2023, for the first time in the history of diplomatic relations between Mongolia and the Holy See, Pope Francis paid a historic state visit to Mongolia. His visit opened a new chapter in bilateral relations and was a milestone event for both sides. During his visit, Pope Francis praised the Mongolian people as a symbol of religious and spiritual freedom and highly commended their contribution to world peace and harmony.

Leaders from over 150 countries attended the funeral ceremony to honor Pope Francis’s legacy.
