The state visit of Mongolian President U.Khurelsukh to the Republic of Italy continued today, culminating in official talks with Italian President Sergio Mattarella following a private meeting.
Both heads of state expressed satisfaction with the growing bilateral relationship and said that joint efforts have driven active development across social and economic sectors. They noted that relations were elevated during the visit, describing the partnership as having been upgraded by two levels to a strategic partnership.
The leaders reaffirmed commitment to deepening mutually beneficial cooperation in trade and investment, agriculture, light industry, roads and transport, education, science, culture, sports, tourism and the media. They also agreed to strengthen collaboration within the UN and other international organisations and exchanged views on regional and global issues.
Emphasising shared values, democracy, human rights, freedom and peace, the two presidents said outstanding issues should be resolved through dialogue. Both expressed confidence that the agreements reached in their talks will be implemented in practice.
President Mattarella accepted President U.Khurelsukh’s invitation to Mongolia and confirmed he will pay a state visit in 2026.
Mongolia and Italy established diplomatic relations in 1970. Mongolia opened its embassy in Rome in 2011, and Italy opened its embassy in Ulaanbaatar in 2016.
