On February 5, 2026, a signing ceremony was held for a grant agreement by the U.S. Trade and Development Agency (USTDA) to fund technical assistance for preparations to launch direct flights between Mongolia and the United States.
The agreement was signed by G.Ganbold, Deputy Minister of Roads and Transport, on behalf of the Government of Mongolia, and Thomas Hardy, Acting Director of USTDA, on behalf of the United States. The ceremony was attended by Foreign Minister B.Battsetseg and Ambassador O.Batbayar.
Under the agreement, a USD 2.6 million technical-assistance project will be implemented to raise aviation safety standards and support readiness for direct services. USTDA will co-finance USD 2.2 million, and private partner Viks Group will contribute USD 390,000 in co-financing.
Foreign Minister B.Battsetseg said the project will deepen aviation ties, strengthen political and economic cooperation, and boost trade, tourism and people-to-people exchanges. She described the initiative as a concrete expression of the Mongolia–U.S. Strategic Third Neighbourhood Partnership in the civil-aviation field.
