As of April 2016, Mongolia has exported approximately 1000 tons of meat. Specifically, most of the exported meat was of horse meat reports the Ministry of Food and Agriculture.
This spring Mongolia has started to export mutton and goat meat to China through Burgastai port and 'Mon-Tuva' company has exported 16 tons in Feb and again 56 tons in April. Besides China, Russia also is purchasing large amount of horse meat.
Out of some 60 meat factories in Mongolia only half of them have license to export meat. Mongolian National Chamber of Commerce and Industry reports China, Russian Federation, South Korea and United Arab Emirates are Mongolia's meat export markets. Although in the first quarter of 2016, Russia and China were the main buyers of meat.
In regards to price, 1 kg frozen beef to Russia is being exported at 7-9 US dollars and to China at 4 US dollars.
Disease and domestic industry standard plays an important role in meat export. Recently, China's Specialized investigation authority determined the west region as disease free region and enabled to export mutton and goat meat from Mongolia.
