12-year-old T.Todmunkh wins U18 open category, becomes world champion

The FIDE World Cadet & Youth Rapid & Blitz Chess Championships 2026 are being held in Vrnjačka Banja, Serbia, from April 14–21, 2026.

Mongolian junior chess champion T.Todmunkh is representing Mongolia in the tournament. He won the U18 open rapid and blitz categories and was crowned world champion.

T.Todmunkh is scheduled to compete in the U12 blitz category, which begins on April 19 and will continue for two days to determine the winners. Russian players are currently leading the tournament, and this year they have been allowed to compete under their national flag.
