N.Nomtoibayar urges financial audit ahead of COP17

The National Committee for the 17th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (COP17) held its meeting.

According to the committee, preparatory work is 55% complete, while event organization and the construction of green zones have yet to begin. More than 4,000 officers are expected to be deployed to ensure traffic control, public order, and visitor safety during the conference. It is also planned to establish a dedicated e-visa channel for COP17 participants, who will be exempt from visa fees.

Deputy Prime Minister N.Nomtoibayar said an interim audit of funding related to the organization of COP17 is necessary. He stressed that the financial disputes and politicization seen during ASEM should not be repeated.

Deputy Minister of Environment and Climate Change B.Munkhtamir said the National Audit Office has already submitted a request for an audit. “After the meeting, a proposal will be made to conduct an audit from September 1. It is advisable to include all parties in the audit,” he said.
