According to the second compact agreement between the Government of Mongolia and the Millennium Challenge Corporation of the US, a western source of groundwater will be built by USD 350 million grant.
In the framework of the project, the foundation of the plant was laid today to provide the city's growing water needs without adverse environmental impacts and to build a water treatment plant with relevant pipelines.
The water treatment plant will be commissioned in 2024, and the testing and adjustment work will continue for a year. Up to 50 million cubic meters of water will be treated annually from two new sources of groundwater and supplied to the capital city's central water supply network when the plant is in operation.
