Mongolia contributed USD 1 million to the United Nations World Food Programme in Cuba to support the food security in relevance as most areas of Cuba were affected by floods and the main sectors of the economy suffered heavy losses. The aid handing over event took place on June 28, 2024 in the port of Havana.
The event was attended by Zoljargal Seseer, the Ambassador of Mongolia in Cuba, Grisel Avila Diaz, Cuban deputy minister of domestic trade, Etienne Labande, WFP Representative in Cuba, and other representatives.
The contribution will enable WFP to meet the food needs of around 50,000 people, including 2,900 pregnant women and more than 44,600 vulnerable people. To this end, WFP purchased 400 mt of rice, 107 mt of cooking oil and 250 mt of grains that will be distributed.
“This humanitarian aid is an expression of the warm sentiments of the Mongolian people dedicated to the Cuban people who are going through complex social and economic times,” said Ambassador of Mongolia in Cuba, Zoljargal Seseer.
Grisel Avila Diaz, Cuban deputy minister of domestic trade, emphasized that this humanitarian assistance provided by the people of Mongolia is a timely and important aid and expressed gratitude on behalf of the Cuban people.
