The Mongols have been shamanists since the time immemorial, and even after Buddhism was introduced to Mongolia shamanism and Buddhis co-existed until the communist regime in the 20th century. After Mongolia threw communist rules in the early 1990s religion — in the form of Buddhism, shamanism, and other folk religions — became officially accepted again in Mongolian society. Briefly, the fundaments of Shamanist faith is all about man living in a solid harmony with the Mother Nature, thus, worships the nature, natural forces as well as man’s ancestors. Shamanists believe that every living being of the universe and the elements of the nature has a soul / spirit within it. And a shaman in general (zairan – a male shaman, and udgan – a shamaness) is a person with supernatural ability of connecting with the souls of the dead ancestors.
One of the most important rituals of shamanism is fire ceremony, which symbolises a spark of the Sun, purity and connecting with the souls. And a fire ceremony takes place on a few days a year, and this Saturday, 22 August happens to be an auspicious day. Genco Tour Bureau is organising a fire ceremony tour at the 13th century theme park for everyone interested in shamanism and Mongolian culture. Many say it’s a great opportunity to visit the Giant Genghis Statue at Tsonjin Boldog and the 13th century theme park besides taking part in a shamanic fre ceremony.
The whole day event starts at 10am and shuttle bus service is included in the ticket fee (ticket price is 72000 MNT and children below 5 are free of charge whilst, children of 6-11 will get the ticket at half price). You can buy tickets at Genco Tour office at Bayangol hotel or right at the entrance of the 13th century theme park.
