Members of the Parliament and representatives of the Mongolian-Israeli parliamentary group, led by Chairman B.Batbaatar and MP B.Uyanga, held an official meeting with Shir Gideon Mizrahi, Deputy Head of the Israeli Embassy in Beijing, and D.Naran, Honorary Consul of Israel to Mongolia, to discuss expanding bilateral relations.
Opening the meeting, MP B.Batbaatar emphasized that multilateral cooperation across all sectors has significantly expanded in the 35 years since Mongolia and Israel established diplomatic relations. He highlighted recent initiatives to strengthen ties between the legislative bodies of both nations, noting the success of a virtual meeting held earlier this year, and expressed a firm commitment to translating diplomatic dialogues into actionable outcomes.
Commemorating the 35th anniversary of diplomatic relations this year, B.Batbaatar underscored the substantial potential to elevate traditional friendly ties by deepening economic cooperation. Both sides agreed that advancing the agricultural sector, particularly through modern water management, advanced technologies, and innovation, will play a central role in future collaborative efforts.
Deputy Head of Mission Mizrahi noted that inter-parliamentary cooperation is crucial for establishing the legal frameworks necessary to support broader bilateral initiatives. She advocated for increasing the frequency of friendship group meetings and facilitating mutual legislative visits. Mizrahi also highlighted the strong potential for Israel to share its extensive expertise and best practices in groundwater, surface water, and comprehensive water resource management.
The discussions also extended to legislative frameworks and social policies. Referencing the composition of the 120-member Israeli Knesset, which currently includes 30 female parliamentarians representing various political factions, the delegations exchanged views on promoting equal political participation. They also explored strategies for strengthening democratic representation, protecting the rights of people with disabilities, and drafting legislation to ensure universally accessible environments.
Looking ahead, both parties expressed confidence that an Israeli delegation will participate in the 17th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (COP17), scheduled to be hosted in Ulaanbaatar this August. According to the Press and Public Relations Department of the Parliament, the upcoming global conference is expected to further advance bilateral cooperation in environmental protection, climate change mitigation, and the introduction of agricultural innovations.
