Kh. Baasanjargal, a member of the Parliament, and a member of the Standing Committee on Human Rights, has drawn public attention to the risks faced by minors who ride fast horses, saying official data show a worrying number of fatalities.
Kh.Baasanjargal posted on her social media that, according to information she received from the Forensic Investigation Department, 46 children have died from brain injuries sustained after falling from fast horses. She said the figures are based on official records and cannot be ignored.
The MP said the practice of children working as jockey is documented in contracts lodged with the Mongolian Chamber of Notary. She said many agreements appear to offer families MNT 200,000–1,000,000 per month but often lack clear terms on payment, duration or basic protections. Kh.Baasanjargal argued that such arrangements can curtail children’s rights to health, education and development.
She urged citizens to report suspected cases of child exploitation or dangerous child labour: contact the Police at 102 or the Child protection at 108.
