100,000 citizens sign petition to repeal MP post-term allowance

A petition initiated by citizen Batbold Tsogbadrakh to repeal a parliamentary allowance provision has reached the required threshold, organizers say, after 100,000 people signed in support.

The petition targets Article 41.9 of the Law on the Parliament, which states that when a member’s term ends and they are not employed at that time, they shall be paid an allowance equal to an MP’s basic salary for 12 months. The petitioner argues the rule creates unequal treatment, undermines wage equality, conflicts with social-insurance and benefit laws, and contradicts the Constitution’s principle of equal rights.

Under parliamentary procedure, a petition that gathers more than 100,000 signatures must be considered by the relevant standing committee of the Parliament, which may then decide whether to draft and submit legislative changes. Organizers say the petition has now reached the 100,000-signature mark, opening the way for committee review and possible legislative action.

The deadline for submitting the proposal is 16:03, October 28.
