“Badrakh Energy” LLC director attacked by uranium protestor

The director of Badrakh Energy LLC, a Mongolian-French joint venture, was physically attacked following a meeting with citizens protesting uranium operations in Dornogovi province.

The meeting took place on April 21, during which representatives of the protest movement raised concerns about the health and environmental impacts of uranium mining, including claims of birth defects in livestock and humans. The protesters attributed these issues to the Zuuvch-Ovoo uranium deposit, which Badrakh Energy is licensed to develop.

At the ending of the meeting, Marc Meleard, Director of “Badrakh Energy LLC”, was reportedly confronted by one of the protesters. According to witnesses, the individual shouted, "I want to kill you" and beat him.

In a statement, police said, “At 2:40 PM, a unit from the 1st Division of the Sukhbaatar District Police Department responded to a report of a physical altercation at the IC Center. Officers arrived at the scene and launched an investigation to clarify the circumstances”.
