B.Dashpurev, State Secretary of the Ministry of Industry and Mineral Resources, has dismissed recent social media rumors regarding fuel shortages and price hikes, confirming that Mongolia's fuel supply remains stable and reliable ahead of the Naadam holiday.
Current domestic reserves are sufficient to meet demand, with a 33-day supply of AI-92 gasoline (71,000 tons), a 44-day supply of AI-95 (3,965 tons), and a 27-day supply of diesel (106,000 tons). While pricing pressures from Russia exist, the Ministry assured the public that retail prices will remain unchanged before the festival.
Furthermore, following successful negotiations with suppliers, the border price of diesel has been reduced from $1,385 to $1,040 per ton, which will trigger a retail price drop by the end of July.
To strengthen long-term energy security, the government is actively diversifying its procurement channels by finalizing import agreements with China and South Korea. Additionally, a new 291,000-cubic-meter national fuel storage facility is under construction, with initial sections scheduled to become operational on August 1, 2026.
