"Former United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon to Receive 'Chinggis Khaan' order"

President Khurelsukh Ukhnaa has issued a decree awarding the highest state honor, the "Chinggis Khaan" Order of First Rank, to South Korean citizen and eighth Secretary-General of the United Nations, Ban Ki-moon.

This announcement was made by G. Zandanshatar, Chief of Staff of the President’s Office.

Ban Ki-moon is the second foreign national to receive the "Chinggis Khaan" Order of First Rank, following American scholar Jack Weatherford.

According to the "Regulations on Nominating and Awarding the Chinggis Khaan Order," the honor can be awarded to foreign statesmen, social figures, or citizens who have contributed significantly to strengthening unity, development, and peace for humanity; developing relations and cooperation with Mongolia; promoting Mongolia's reputation globally; and making tangible contributions to Mongolia’s economic, social, and intellectual progress.

President Khurelsukh Ukhnaa will present the "Chinggis Khaan" Order of First Rank on the anniversary of Great Chinggis Khaan's birth, celebrated as "Mongolian Pride Day," on November 2, 2024, at the State Palace.
