On March 18, 2026, the Minister of Roads and Transport of Mongolia held a virtual meeting with D.S. Zverev, Deputy Minister of the Russian Federation to discuss closer transport cooperation, including unifying the technical and economic feasibility for the central railway corridor under the trilateral economic-corridor programme.
The sides agreed to finalise and sign the relevant project documents during the International Transport and Logistics Forum scheduled next month in St. Petersburg. They also committed to approving and signing the project paperwork for the Bagakhangai–Khushig Valley branch railway at the forum, advancing a prioritized domestic link intended to strengthen cargo flows and connectivity.
In addition, both parties agreed to intensify preparations to resume direct air services on the Ulaanbaatar–Moscow route, taking steps to make the restoration of scheduled flights a reality.
