Khovd province introduces restrictions following meningococcal outbreak

Two cases of meningococcal infection have been registered in Jargalant soum of Khovd province, and one person has died, local authorities say.

In response, School No. 7 in Jargalant will hold primary-school classes online from 16–20 March 2026, and public sports, cultural and club activities for high-school and kindergarten students are restricted from 13–27 March.

Meningococcal disease can progress rapidly and be life-threatening; public-health measures typically include rapid identification of close contacts, antibiotic prophylaxis where indicated and targeted vaccination campaigns for at-risk groups.
