Jacques Van Tonder, director of the underground mining project, has been appointed acting CEO of Oyu Tolgoi.
On December 1, 2020, Oyu Tolgoi's Board of Directors appointed Jacques Van Tonder as Director of the Underground Mining Project. Jack joined the company's executive management team and reported directly to the board.
Mr van Tonder has been a senior leader in the Rio Tinto Group Technical functional team since 2017 and has been instrumental in leading the Asset Management global transformation programme as head of the Asset Management Center of Excellence.
As head of the Asset Management Center, he has played a key role in implementing the business reform program.
Jacques Van Tonder holds a master's degree in asset management and maintenance management, and a master's degree in business administration in project management. A graduate of the Australian Governance of Australia, he is a board member of the International Council on Mining and Metals.
