Ulaanbaatar city governing body in cooperation with tech giant Google have completed huge work on mapping UB city streets for Google Street View in the scope of “Smart Ulaanbaatar” program, which is believed to boost tourism and unveil economic capacity. The program includes projects on Google Map, Google Street View, Google Culture Institute and Google Art. UB city worked closely with Google for two years and after thorough experiments have kick started its Google Street View project this past October with ceremony held on Chinggis Square.
This enables anyone to view UB city streets from any corner of the globe with the help of any portable device and computers.
Around 60 countries are available for these services covering 4,000 cities and 8 million km of roads. While many metropolitan cities such as Washington, New York, London, Paris, Tokyo, Hong Kong and etc. are already available Ulaanbaatar city is one of the first Central Asian cities to be covered completely.
Mongolia is 61st country available for Google Street View
This event puts Mongolia and Ulaanbaatar city on map of millions of online users, as the information is searchable on Google and YouTube and opens up potentials for boosting tourism and increasing economic interest from abroad. Moreover, this might increase public awareness and be grounds for improved safety in the streets of UB.
