On July 20, a suspected case of bubonic plague was reported in Jargalant soum, Khovd province, and the patient is currently being treated in isolation at the Regional Diagnostic and Treatment Center.
The National Center for Zoonotic Diseases (NCZD) provided an update on the situation.
According to the NCZD, 12 people identified as close contacts of the patient have been placed under quarantine and are being monitored by their family physicians.
A PCR test conducted at the Khovd Province Zoonotic Diseases Laboratory returned a positive result. Confirmation and bacteriological test results are expected within 72 hours.
Health officials said the patient's condition is serious but stable. The patient is not currently experiencing pain and will continue receiving treatment in Khovd province rather than being transferred to Ulaanbaatar until the course of treatment is completed.
Meanwhile, the Khovd Province Emergency Commission is holding a meeting and is expected to announce shortly whether movement restrictions or other emergency measures will be introduced in the province.
