U.Khurelsukh, the President of Mongolia, has issued a pardon to journalist N.Unurtsetseg, along with three other women, in recognition of International Women’s Day.
Zarig.mn reported that the President issued the pardons based on letters of apology submitted by the individuals.
Journalist N.Unurtsetseg was sentenced to 4.9 years in prison, a decision upheld by the appeals court after she contested the first-instance ruling. She is now set to be released, eight months after the court’s initial verdict on July 20, 2024.
N.Unurtsetseg was convicted on multiple charges, including:
Spreading false information that damaged the reputation of four individuals and one legal entity;
Unlawfully disclosing legally protected personal secrets online;
Concealing taxable income to evade taxes;
Using assets and income obtained through tax evasion;
Storing documents containing state secrets.
