That day has left dark spot in Mongolia's history and seven years have past since that day. Five people have tragically lost their lives on that day.

July 1st of 2008 has started with a peaceful demonstration of the voters to protest the State Great Khural voting results, but which ended tragically. Four were shot and one suffered carbon monoxide toxication. The police officers were named as the main convicts and were sentenced to 2.6-3.6 years of imprisoning.

There are unofficial numbers that over 800 citizens participated in the protest demonstration on July 1st and over 3000 police body were untilized for defense. Over 400 police officers were injuried, while there is no data on how many civillians were injuried or have been victimized.

Over 900 civillians were arrested after the incident and 275 of them were named convicts. Total estimates of damages amounted to MNT 12 billion and

  • 86.6 percent of the participants of the demonstration were placed in detention,
  • 8 percent were arrested  and
  • 0.8 percent were sentenced.

11 children and 2 women were pardoned in 2009 by then President of Mongolian N.Enkhbayar.

Since that violent incident families of five citizens and over 200 citizens who were named convicts have left with constant dark spot in their lives and many thousand still remember this day as tragic and never wish such day to happen again.
