On December 17, Prime Minister G.Zandanshatar conducted an official inspection of the preparations for the upcoming 17th Conference of the Parties (COP17) to the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification. The major international summit is scheduled to be held in Ulaanbaatar next year.
The conference's main events are planned for the eastern section of the National Park, where development is proceeding according to the approved design. This specific site was selected to meet the United Nations' requirement for an open-area venue while ensuring strict separation from the city’s drinking water sources.
Critical infrastructure for the event site has already been finalized. Officials confirmed that 100% of the engineering networks, including water supply, sewage, power grids, and information and communication systems, were completed and successfully handed over to the State Commission last November.
Currently, the construction of access roads and parking facilities stands at 45% completion. Due to severe winter conditions, road paving has been temporarily suspended. Major construction activities are scheduled to resume in full force beginning March 2026.
The COP17 will take place in Ulaanbaatar from August 17 to 28, 2026. The event is expected to draw significant global attention, with an estimated attendance of 8,000 to 12,000 delegates, including world leaders, environmental experts, and international observers.
