The State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Mr D.Gankhuyag made opening remarks at the ASEM Senior Officials’ Meeting which commenced on Thursday in Ulaanbaatar.

The meeting brought together 170 delegates of 51 ASEM member countries, the European Union (EU), the Association of Southeast Asian Nations’ (ASEAN) Secretariat and the Asia-Europe Foundation (ASEF). Participants are addressing issues on strengthening the governmental and people-to-people ties between Asian and European countries, an implementation course for 16 directions ASEM partner states agreed to work in, celebration of the 20th anniversary of the ASEM, and further collaboration for the next decade.

The participants are elaborating preparation works for the 11th ASEM Summit and discussing draft documents to be issued by the ASEM Summit in UB, which is set to release the ASEM 20th anniversary document, the Ulaanbaatar Declaration and the Statement of Chair Country.

The ASEM Senior Officials’ Meeting is a mechanism of diplomats who bear responsibilities in their countries to ensure leads-up to the ASEM Summit and Ministerial Meetings, to consolidate nations’ positions after analyzing proposals and initiatives from the ASEM partners and to regulate the ASEM operations.
