Japanese doctors operated cardiac surgery on 536 children

Japanese "Heart protection project" NGO organized voluntary work and operated heart catheter surgical procedures on 536 children.

With a help from kind hearted Japanese and Mongolian people and organizations' donations, they diagnose and treat birth cardiac defects and so far 5278 children have been diagnosed over 21 aimags in Mongolia.

Total of 382 doctors, nurses, translators and volunteers are working for this voluntary work. These people come to Mongolia at their own cost, while doctors make two trips per year. In their first trip, doctors diagnose and select patients and during the final trip treatment/surgery takes place.

Last work took place in April 29-30 at Western region diagnostics center in Khovd aimag where this kind of illness is widely spread and 119 children were diagnosed free-of-charge.

And in May 1-4, 20 selected children will be treated at Mother, Child health center.

Treatment costs vary depending on the illness of patient but average cost ranges around 1300 US Dollars.

Moreover, 15 ambulance vehicles have been donated to aimags in the past.
