According to the initiative, responsibility and direction given by Khurelsukh Ukhnaa, the President of Mongolia, the work to protect the Kherlen river has started.
An office of the President held a joint meeting with the Environment and Tourism Department of Khentii Province, the Kherlen River Basin Administration to discuss the work plan and organizing process.
In the framework, a Working Group consists of government and administrative organizations and relevant officials of five provinces, one district, and 22 soums where Kherlen River flows. In further, it is planned to double protect the main heads of the Kherlen River, and to carry out standard and comprehensive work on the protection of rivers and streams.
Kherlen River is a 1254 km river in territory of Mongolia and China. The river originates in the south slopes of the Khentii mountains, near the Burkhan Khaldun and it disembogues to the Pacific Ocean.
