Dead bodies of seven mountaineers found

ULAANBAATAR (GoGo Mongolia) - A total of 27 people climbed to the Otgontenger mountain, located in Otgon soum of Zavkhan aimag on Oct 21 and only 10 of them were climbed down successfully while remaining 17 people went missing, reports National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA).

NEMA held a press session today at 3 p.m and reported that dead bodies of seven people found in the snow slide today.

In 2015, Ministry of Environment and Tourism banned mountaineering to the Otgontenger mountain. However, those people decided to climb despite the warning of the local ranger.

A total of 66 rescuers with the help of four vehicles and helicopters are searching for the remaining 10 missing people. The search and rescue operation will be carried out until the dark.

The 10 people who climb down first says: "The missing mountaineers reached the peak at 2:30 p.m and descended from the mountain after 30 minutes. Half an hour later, a snowslide occurred."

National Agency for Meteorology and Environment Monitoring stated that warm temperatures might have caused the snowslide.
