Mongolian citizens go to South Korea on tourist visa and work illegally

Kh.Bulgantuya, the Minister of Labour and Social Protection, received Kim Jong-gu, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea.

During the meeting, two parties exchanged opinions on the possibility of reducing illegal residence and employment by easing visa conditions for Mongolian citizens, and the possibility of paying attention to social security for citizens working under contracts in the Republic of Korea and citizens traveling for short-term work, travel, and medical treatment.

Kim Jong-gu, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea, said “800-900 people apply for Korean visas per day. However there is an opportunity to work legally under the intergovernmental agreement, many people go on short-term visas and work illegally. And the case doesn't decrease. Thus, we will work hard to extend the visa period, make it more open, and create an accessible system”.
