On August 16, 2025, Prime Minister G.Zandanshatar visited the strategically important “Shivee Ovoo” JSC brown coal mine to oversee operations and ensure preparations for the coming winter.
The mine supplies 28% of Mongolia’s energy production, 50% of the “TPP-4” SOSC, and 80% of the Amgalan Thermal Power Plant’s coal consumption. This year, 2.5 million tons of coal are planned for extraction, with over 60% already achieved. Since its establishment, the mine has produced and sold 45 million tons of coal.
However, the company currently faces challenges in repaying debts and securing essential supplies, including diesel fuel, explosives, and wagons. Additionally, a landslide that occurred 7 years ago left a 1 km crack in the mine, temporarily halting operations at the time.
During the visit, the Prime Minister stressed the need for efficient management, urging the company to develop a research-based mining work plan, implement technical reforms, expand reserves, and gradually raise productivity by up to 50%.
He also instructed management to avoid high-interest loans and inefficient purchases, and to introduce a unified standard for equipment and machinery procurement.
To ensure reliable winter energy supply, the Prime Minister tasked “Shivee Ovoo” JSC and “Erdenes Mongol” JSC with completing all equipment maintenance before winter and expediting the purchase of essential spare parts.
