Z.Tsogtgerel: Teachers’ strike to end in 24 hours and classes to resume

Z.Tsogtgerel, head of the Education and Science Trade Union Committee, announced that the nationwide teachers’ strike will officially end in 24 hours and educational activities will resume.

Z.Tsogtgerel said the union and the Ministry of Education reached a supplementary agreement after 13 days of strike action involving employees of 720 education organizations. He thanked parents for their patience and said the agreement is a victory not only for today’s teachers but for the future of education.

Under the deal, teachers’ basic salary will be raised to MNT 2.8 million in 2026, and the parties agreed to work toward including a MNT 3.5 million basic salary in the 2027 state budget. The agreement contains nine provisions in total. Importantly, teachers will be deemed to have worked during the strike and will receive full salary for that period.

Z.Tsogtgerel said the parties also pledged to pursue legal changes to allocate at least 20% of total state budget expenditure and 6% of GDP to the education sector.

Schools and kindergartens must complete preparations within 24 hours after the strike ends, for example, arranging meals and notifying parents, and classes will resume once those preparations are finished. If any disputes arise during implementation, they will be resolved by consensus between the parties.
