In an effort to reduce air pollution in Ulaanbaatar, the government has approved a resolution to support households switching from solid fuel to gas.
Mayor Kh.Nyambaatar announced that over 200,000 households currently use solid fuel for heating, significantly contributing to air pollution. Additionally, 804,000 vehicles and power plants add to the city's worsening air quality.
To address this issue, the government plans to help 32,000 to 50,000 households transition to gas fuel by the 2025-2026 winter season. As an incentive, households that voluntarily stop using solid fuel will receive gas stoves and heating equipment, along with a MNT 100,000 monthly subsidy from September 15 to May 15.
The initiative also includes measures to improve home insulation, with various ministries ensuring implementation. The Border Guard and Internal Troops will assist in preparations for winter. This policy is part of a broader effort to combat air pollution and promote cleaner, more sustainable energy sources in the capital.
