N.Uchral: Online gambling apps to be blocked from App store

At today’s Cabinet meeting, sector ministers discussed new measures to regulate online gambling in Mongolia.

N.Uchral, Chief Cabinet Secretary, announced that a draft amendment to the Law on Licensing will be submitted to Parliament. The amendment will legalize sports betting while imposing a complete ban on all other forms of online gambling.

Despite the Communications Regulatory Commission having restricted access to 6,036 online gambling domains, gambling operators continue to bypass regulations by frequently changing their links and using VPNs.

To strengthen enforcement, the revised Law on Licensing will prohibit any agents or intermediaries from promoting online gambling. Once the law is approved and enforced, iOS, App Store, and Meta will be required to comply, ensuring that online gambling applications are no longer available for download on these platforms.

Individuals who attempt to bypass restrictions by downloading gambling apps through alternative links or VPNs, or those who facilitate online gambling, will face legal consequences. Additionally, under the new law, the Bank of Mongolia will have the authority to monitor and freeze funds linked to online gambling activities to prevent capital outflow from the country.
