This year, the birthday of Chinggis Khaan, Mongolia’s National Pride Day, is set to be celebrated on November 24, which is a non-working public holiday in Mongolia.
Mongolia’s National Pride Day has been celebrated as a public holiday since 2012. This year marks the 860th anniversary of the Great Khaan's birth. According to Presidential Decree No.4 dated January 9, 2012, the date of birth of Chinggis Khaan was made official based on the conclusions of the relevant working group and the scientific proposal, and it was determined to be the first day of winter months of the lunar calendar, and the day was designated as "Mongolia’s National Pride Day" to be celebrated.
On the occasion of this day, the president, speaker of Parliament, prime minister, and key representatives from the government, the military, sports, arts, and herders pay tribute to the statue of Chinggis Khan in central Sukhbaatar Square in Ulaanbaatar. The Chinggis Khaan Order is also given – an award honouring the most outstanding national figures who have contributed greatly to the development of Mongolia.
Also, on Mongolia’s National Pride Day, the ceremony of the traditional Nine White Banners is held at Sukhbaatar Square, and a high-ranking wrestling competition is held.
On November 26, Republic Day is a public holiday in Mongolia, but the 26th of next month falls on Saturday.
