On June 14, the President of Mongolia Ts.Elbegdorj arrived in Naypyidaw for a working visit to the Republic of the Union of Myanmar. At the welcoming, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Mongolia to Myanmar T.Tugsbilguun and from Myanmar side, Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation Ohn Win and other officials were present.
In the scope of the 60th Anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Mongolia and Myanmar, the President of Mongolia paid a working visit to Myanmar from 14-16 June, 2016.
PRESIDENT ELBEGDORJ PARTICIPATES IN MONGOLIA-MYANMAR CEO CONFERENCE
On May 15, the President of Mongolia Ts.Elbegdorj participated in the Mongolia-Myanmar CEO Conference themed “Realizing Partnership Potentials” in Naypyidaw.
He expressed in the opening remarks his satisfaction with the activated development of bilateral relations and intensified interaction between businesses in the recent years.
The president noted that there is abundance of opportunities for Mongolia and Myanmar to collectively strive for growth and to exchange practices, given many similarities in history, culture and natural resources.
Mongolia will always be open to share its experiences and lessons of developing democracy and human rights and improving rule of law and justice, he said.
President Ts.Elbegdorj mentioned about the Law on Future Generation /Sovereign Wealth Fund, with a purpose to save the share of mining revenue for the next generations, the importance of exporting value-added final products and privatization of properties.
Underlining the development of industry and animal husbandry, he said that cooperation of the two countries in these sectors are crucial.
Also, he added that a favorable environment has been established for the two nations to develop tourism cooperation. The President concluded his speech by wishing success in the further works of the business forum organizers and participants.
After this, President Ts.Elbegdorj legged the National Museum of Myanmar in Naypyidaw, and signed the honored guest book.
PRESIDENT ELBEGDORJ MET WITH THE PRESIDENT OF THE OSLO CENTER
During the International Workshop “Sound Management of Natural Resources-2” co-organized by the International Cooperation Fund of Mongolia and the Oslo Center, President of Mongolia H.E. Mr. Ts.Elbegdorj met with the former Prime Minister of Norway and President of the Oslo Center Mr. Kjell Bondevik in Naypyidaw, Republic of the Union of Myanmar.
The Oslo Center was established in 2006 to cooperate with developing countries in the areas of good governance, human rights and democracy. For the past 2 two years Mongolia has been closely cooperating with the Oslo Center.
They exchanged views on further cooperation of Mongolia and the Oslo Center, to expand and deepen the cooperation beyond natural resources management to other areas of strengthening democracy and good governance.
Furthermore, they agreed to organize the next event in Kyrgyz Republic.
PRESIDENT ELBEGDORJ HOLDS OFFICIAL TALKS WITH HIS MYANMAR COUNTERPART
President Ts.Elbegdorj held Wednesday official talks with the President of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar Htin Kyaw, in Naypyidaw city.
At the beginning of the talks, the Burmese President Htin Kyaw expressed thanks to Ts.Elbegdorj for visiting Myanmar in the light of the 60th anniversary of the bilateral diplomatic relations.
The Mongolian President said he is happy to visit to Myanmar on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the diplomatic relations, and thanked the Burmese President for the warm audience.
“Our countries have opportunities for boosting bilateral relations and cooperation in certain spheres. I am pleased to note that a frequency of the reciprocal visits has been increasing in recent years. The President of Myanmar and public service officials have visited Mongolia. As results of the intensifying relations, people of the countries have got aspiration to support each other and exchange experiences,” Ts.Elbegdorj said.
“Mongolians chose a path to the democracy and the market economy in the 1990s. There is a big difference between just talking about reforms and making it real. We have a willingness to share our experiences with others in reaching this point after overcoming enormous challenges,” he said.
The Mongolian President congratulated Htin Kyaw on being re-elected the President of Myanmar, and said he believes that Myanmar’s development will flourish under leadership of the incumbent President.
The President of Myanmar Htin Kyaw emphasized he is proud of Mongolian people and their achievements in democracy.
“I am very happy that our countries are exchanging our practices. We welcome friendly relations Mongolia maintains with its neighbor countries, regional and overseas countries, international organizations led by the United Nations,” the Myanmar President said.
In response, Ts.Elbegdorj noted that our nations have much in common in religion, history, culture and visions, so the countries are possible to exchange students of Buddhist schools. He said the countries are able to cooperate in the peacekeeping operations, economy, education, tourism and other fields.
The President of Mongolia hopes that his Myanmar counterpart would take part in the 11th ASEM Summit that will be held next month in Ulaanbaatar.
A MEMORANDUM OF UNDERSTANDING WAS SIGNED BETWEEN MONGOLIA AND MYANMAR
On the sidelines of a Working Visit of the President of Mongolia Ts.Elbegdorj to the Republic of the Union of Myanmar, a signing ceremony of bilateral cooperation documents has been held at the Presidential Palace in Naypyidaw.
At the ceremony, a Memorandum of Understanding of Cooperation in Cultural Sphere was signed between the Mongolian Ministry of Education, Culture and Science and the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Culture of Myanmar.

The President of Mongolia Mr Ts.Elbegdorj met with the State Counsellor and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar Ms Aung San Suu Kyi on June 15.
“Mongolian people are always generous when it comes to sharing their knowledge and lessons. Because of that will, our delegation is here for a visit in honor of the 60th anniversary of the diplomatic ties between Mongolia and Myanmar”, said the President. He congratulated the people of Myanmar for making the historic choice.
In response, Ms Aung San Suu Kyi thanked the President for paying the visit on the important point in history of the bilateral relations. “Undoubtedly, Your visit will make valuable contribution to consolidating relations between our two countries”, she said and wished success to the President’s works.
President informed the Myanmar’s FM about his attendance the Mongolia-Myanmar business forum and the Sound Management Natural Resources - 2 Workshop as well as his efforts to share Mongolia’s experiences and lessons on transition to democracy. He also talked about his upcoming meetings with the public officials, teachers and students of Myanmar, and how he plans to present Mongolia’s democratic path, social situations, economy and mining practices. In consideration of the fact that good governance is a major factor for a country’s growth, he also iss set to focus on Mongolia’s achievements and projects on good governance.
“Mongolia was lead the world countries with its economic growth in the beginning of its mining boom. In a relatively short period of time, much revenue from mining sector were spent for unpromising actions, such as social care and cash distribution. In addition to this, with diminishing consumer countries' demand for the raw material due to the world economic crises, Mongolia started facing economic difficulties. To overcome these challenges, Mongolia began learning and applying the mining sector practices of the countries like Norway, which utilized its natural resources in most efficient way. It started giving promising signs. Mongolia has much in common with Myanmar in terms of natural riches, therefore, is eager to share its experiences gained”, said the President.
Ms Aung San Suu Kyi said: “I would like to extend my gratitude to the people of Mongolia, who wants to share its lessons and practices with other peoples while actively building a strong democracy in their country. Exchange of practices plays a key role in strengthening the bilateral ties”.
