S.Amarsaikhan, the Deputy Prime Minister of Mongolia, has made a report in relevance with the winter situation nationwide.
- As of today, over 80% of the territory is covered with snow. After making an assessment, 192 soums are under heavy condition. In this regard, the government is taking three-phase actions. 6,000 tons of fodder will be taken out from the state reserves and delivered to herder households, 20,000 tons of grass and 10,000 tons of feed wheat will be taken out from the local reserves. We will also pay attention to the normal supply of power, health, roads and infrastructure.
54,000 km of road which was covered with snow have been cleaned. Herders made a request to suspend their loan repayment temporarily. Nationwide, 140,000 herders have loans of MNT 1.2 trillion, with average interest rate of 21%, and the maximum loan amount is MNT 30-50 million. Herders usually use their loans for fuel, fodder, hay, and tuition fees for their children. Thus, we are making research on postponing the repayment until June, 2024.
52.1% of the total loans, or MNT 685 billion, were received from the State Bank, and 48%, or MN 580 billion, from Khan Bank. International organizations are also participating in the activities and submitting requests for support.
As of today, 1.5 million livestock died due to heavy blizzards nationwide. There is white blizzard in 90 soums, almost white blizzard in 84 soums, and an iron blizzard in 23 soums of 6 provinces.
