In 2020, Mongolian citizens lost time equal to MNT 2.7 trillion in traffic jams. This is eight percent of GDP. If no action is taken, it is likely to reach MNT 6.8 trillion by 2025. One person spends 35 days a year in his car. USD 100 million a year in fuel is wasted on traffic jams.
Nationwide, USD 1.5 billion worth of equipment is purchased annually. Of that, USD 460 million is spent on cars”.
D.Sumiyabazar, Governor of the Capital City, said, “All issues will be resolved comprehensively. The problem we face today is due to the wrong decisions of previous leaders.
The city administration must register vehicles traveling in Ulaanbaatar and collect road taxes.
The feasibility study for the new vehicle introduction project in Ulaanbaatar will be ready on March 30. It is under implementation under cooperation of CREC, the Sixth Railway Bureau of China, and UDC, Mongolia. The three-month work was completed within a month. Work will begin on May 15, 2022. The first 21.2 km of road is scheduled to be commissioned on May 31, 2024. The plan will be presented to the Prime Minister on March 24. The basic railway and piers will be completed by September 30, 2023. The platform will be completed on December 31, 2023. Res iron will be installed on April 30, 2024. We are working on a detailed schedule for May 31, 2024 to make electrical connections and test wagons. The financial outcome was decided in a way having no pressure on the budget. In addition to the LRT, a highway project is under preparation.
Roads will also be upgraded at 18 locations to improve crossing capacity.
