The Embassy of India celebrated the 57th Anniversary of India's flagship capacity building programme - Indian Technical and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) on 22 October, 2021. The function was attended by Mr. Damdinyam Members of Parliament and the former President Mr N. Enkhabayar in presence of about 100 alumni.
In his opening remarks, Ambassador M P Singh, while welcoming the ITEC scholars, shared the news of India achieving the remarkable feat of crossing 1 billion Covid vaccination mark. He underlined how India has always partaken with others its knowledge in science, mathematics, astronomy, innovation and had been pursing ‘developmental cooperation’ over the years, under the collective ethos of accepting the whole world as ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam i.e. ‘one big family’.
Ambassador informed that ITEC programme since its launch in 1964, has remained one of the most impactful capacity building program which has benefitted over 200,000 professionals over the last 5 plus decades. The Government of India offers over 14,000 scholarships every year in about 400 professional study courses to 160 partner countries including Mongolia, in more than 100 premier Indian institutions. Ambassador told that more than 3000 Mongolian scholars have benefitted from ITEC program over the last 3 decades and the list includes several high level dignitaries including Members of Parliament, Constitutional Court, Governors of Provinces and also at the level of Vice Ministers. During the last 3 years, special group courses were organized for Mongolia that included for 12 State Secretaries, 18 Officers from NEMA, 25 Mongolian Armed Forces Officers and a group of 18 Governors led by current Prime Minster Mr. Oyun Erdene. The special training was also imparted for 25 officers from MFA and 35 officials from Mongol Refinery.
Ambassador also briefed on the India’s continuous close partnership with Mongolia – its spiritual neighbour and under ‘Developmental diplomacy’, how India is helping Mongolia to become a self-sustained State with the GOI funded 1.236 billion Oil Refinery Project. India and Mongolia are cooperating not only in economic sectors, but also in IT, Health, Science & Technology, Space, Education, Cyber Security, Renewable Energy and several other sectors. Ambassador called upon all ITEC alumni to play an active role and become a powerful link to further deepen and strengthen the relationship between India and Mongolia.
Member of Parliament Mr. G. Damdinnyam, an ITEC alumni himself, and Mr. N Enkhbayar, 3rd President of Mongolia highlighted long historical and civilization connect through shared heritage, and strong developmental cooperation. They both also congratulated Govt. of India for remarkable feet of attaining #1 Billion. Mr. G, Damdinnyam along with two other beneficiaries shared experiences of programme undertaken by them in India and as also how the knowledge gained from premier Indian Institutions is contributing towards the developmental progress of the Mongolia.
A brief cultural programme was also organized where ITEC alumni from Mongolian National University performed Morin Khuur, traditional throat song, folk dance by the students of National University, Yoga alumni performed Mongolian dance and one of the alumni Mr. Soyombo Enkhsaikha presented few Hindi songs. Students from Ulaanbaatar Children Palace presented Bollywood dance which was much appreciated by the gathering.
