ULAANBAATAR (GoGo Mongolia) - Nearly 200 health, education, and arts workers demonstrated today at 12:40 p.m in front of International Monetary Fund`s office.
Health workers submitted an official letter to IMF demanding to amend the Extended Fund Facility Program.
Earlier, the Ministry of Finance stated that due to the implementation of IMF`s Extended Fund Facility Program, monthly base salaries of doctors, teachers, and artists cannot be increased.
A temporary committee to increase teachers' salaries demanded to raise teachers` monthly base salaries to 1.6 million by 2019.
Meanwhile, monthly base salaries of arts workers are 563 thousand MNT which is 10.5 percent lower than a state-owned company with 100 employees in 2013. Thus, arts workers joined the demonstrate for better pay.
The workers demanded to add their salaries by 50 percent from Jan 2018.
The workers announced to go on strike from Oct 23, if the IMF and the Government of Mongolia will not accept their demand.
