L.Gantumur, Minister of Education, Culture and Science have reported that the ministry is planning to claim the Green Tara, a 17th century Mongolian bronze figure that was sold for 3.46 million euros ($4.3 million) at an auction in Paris despite the Mongolian government’s efforts to block the sale.
Ministry of Education, Culture and Science is to act on behalf of the Government of Mongolia in this claim. In this regard, the working group is to be establshed involving legal experts, paleontholigists, art expert and representative from religious organizations. Moreover, the Ministry is to hire French language translators. L.Gantumur also reported that Ministry is put requests for police investigations on possible smuggling of the cultural artefacts, citing the International Convention against smuggling of the cultural heritage artefacts.
