Cost and time for obtaining an electricity connection will be reduced

Mongolia has been included on ease of doing business measurement since 2013. This year Mongolia ranked 56th out of 189 countries on the World Bank’s annual ease of doing business measurement which uses ten methodologies. 

Our country ranked 134th in Getting Electricity methodology, which means the electricity is the most serious obstacle to business in Mongolia. 

Today Ulaanbaatar Electricity Distribution Network Company (UBEDN) introduced what they have done to fix this issue. 

UBEDN to follow new electricity regulation starting Apr 15. S.Tumurhuu, Head of UBEDN reports that we are working to simplify the process of obtaining electricity connection as well as to reduce the time and cost required for the connection. 

According to the Doing business 2013 measurement, an average time for electricity connection was 126 days in Ulaanbaatar city. Now this period has lowered by 79 days. 

Previously, residents and entities requested to connect electricity have to pass eight stages. However, they will pass two stages starting the implementation of new electricity regulation. 

Moreover cost for the electricity connection will be reduced by 20 percent from MNT 40 million. 

In other words, residents and entities will save their money and time for electricity connection starting Apr 15.
