L.Enkh-Amgalan, Member of Parliament and Minister of Family, Labor, and Social Protection, has drafted a bill to extend the number of days off for Lunar New Year. The bill is set to be discussed at today's cabinet meeting.
Under the proposal, certain holidays from the existing 16 general holidays per year would be removed, while the Naadam and Lunar New Year would receive additional days off.
This year, Lunar New Year falls on March 1 of the Mongolian calendar. The official holiday period is currently set for March 1-3. However, since March 1 and 2 coincide with weekends, there is discussion about extending the holiday, particularly to accommodate those traveling to the countryside.
