Fluorspar export doubles in the first quarter

In the first quarter of 2018, Mongolia’s fluorspar export doubled and reached to MNT 25 million. Half of the volume was exported to People’s Republic of China and the remaining to Russian Federation. Specifically, the flour spar export volume consists of a total of 78.3 thousand tons of flour spar ore and processed spar, a 47.3 percent growth compared to the same period of last year, reports the National Statistics Office.

Bayalag Jonsh LLC , the major flour spar exporter, reportedly exported approximately five thousand tons in the first quarter. Mr. Khurtsbileg Purevdorj, CEO of Bayalag Jonsh, which annually exports about 20 thousand tons, emphasized that the company will increase its export volume this year.

Price of unprocessed ore reached USD 75-92 per ton, while processed ore price stands at USD 92-97. Bayalag Jonsh noted that although the price is higher by USD 30 at the Chinese market, the company is facing several difficulties.

Under a decree issued by the Mining and Heavy Industry Ministry, a working group responsible for assessing the current situation of flour spar extraction, processing and export, and formulate related proposals has been established recently. Last week, the working group members had meeting with representatives of 40 companies in the sector. Ministry of Mining and Heavy Industry informs that the involved parties concluded “If the flour spar sector policy is settled, it will be able to increase flourspar value.”
