Diplomatic missions, international organizations, religious organizations and athletes in Mongolia joined in the “Billion Trees” national campaign.
On October 10, representatives of the Diplomatic Missions in Mongolia, international organizations, the Capital City Ambulance Service, athletes and medalists of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, and religious organizations planted trees in the New Nalaikh Park.
U.Khurelsukh, the President of Mongolia, expressed his gratitude to citizens, organizations, companies and diplomatic missions for fighting against desertification, land degradation and dust storms and respecting the environment. The President also stated that no trees will be brought from the forest as part of the planting “Billion Tree” national campaign. The trees must be planted and nurtured.
The representatives of diplomatic missions in Mongolia have expressed their support and cooperation for this national campaign.
I.K.Azizov, Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Mongolia, said “U.Khurelsukh, the President of Mongolia, just said that up to 1% of the GDP will be spent for this campaign every year. This will be an important contribution to environmental protection in Mongolia. We are supporting this initiative and are ready to cooperate. I think we will talk about this in more detail later”.
Chai Wenru, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People’s Republic of China to Mongolia, said “We appreciate the announcement by the President of Mongolia to plant a billion trees during the UN General Assembly. I understand that such an initiative was made for the future of Mongolia and future generations. The Presidents of the two countries have agreed to work together to protect the environment.
Philip Malone, the British Ambassador to Mongolia, said “Climate change is causing a lot of problems around the world today. Forestry will be one of the main topics on the agenda of next month's climate summit to be held in Glasgow. Related to this, I believe that the initiative of the President of Mongolia to plant the “Billion Tree” is well-timed”.
Jiri Brodsky, the Ambassador of the Czech Republic to Mongolia, stated “The Czech Republic supports any initiative which aims to protect the environment. I personally welcome this initiative. Our two countries have been cooperating in the field of environment, especially forestry. This initiative is not only about planting trees, but also about protecting the environment. Today, I am happy to plant a tree with the Ambassadors of other countries”.
Julien Paupert, Deputy Chief of Mission of the Embassy of France, stated “The initiative of the President of Mongolia is a very good idea. I have been in Mongolia for five weeks. Mongolia is very beautiful, but there are few forests. Planting trees will make the country more beautiful. I planted a tree for the first time and I will take care of it occasionally”.
Andrei Mikhnev, World Bank's Country Manager for Mongolia, said “Everyone is participating in the tree planting campaign which is the contribution to the fight against global climate change. Mongolia is facing many challenges due to climate change. I am glad that the President of Mongolia is showing his leadership on this".
