At the same time with the discussions on Tuul River the Water and Sewage Authority of Mongolia has announced that waste water of UB city to be dumped into Tuul River for three days.

The reason behind is the massive blackout of the Central Waste Water Treatment Facility, which is already in poor condition due to the lack of the funds for many years to do the repairs. Waste Water Treatment Facility is forced to do the interruptions in order to conduct much needed repair services to the facility and according to S.Unen, Head of the Water and Sewage Authority the process of dumping the waste water into Tuul River might even start today.

Aerotanks at the Central Waster Water Treatment Facility has been commenced in 1979 and 1985 respectively and since that time no major repair services have been conducted for more thatn 30 years. The major hole in the tank has expanded and mandatory repair is needed and possibly to continue for three days.

The main problem arising from the repair necessity is the waste water produced daily by UB residents to be dumped without any filtering and sanitation into Tuul River for three days. While currently the facility treats 65 percent of the waste water and dumps into Tuul river.

The initial funds needed for the urgent repair services are to be financed by Water and Sewage Authority. While USD 300 million is required for the complete renovation of the Central Waste Water Treatment Facility. Professionals also warn that although the urgent repaiir services will be done, the facility might stop its activities anytime next year leading to bigger problems.
